Speciality Crop Block Grant

We are thrilled to announce that Slaughter Orchard & Cidery has been awarded a USDA Specialty Crop Block Grant for us to research and teach other orchards, cider mills, and cideries how to use ground harvested apples to safely make high-quality hard cider. Our orchard and apple processing research will be conducted at our north location, Hainlen Orchard , in Converse, IN. Our fermentation research will be conducted at our Bloomington, IN cidery. The $163,000 grant will run for two years and includes research, a model HACCP plan, an educational position paper, and in-orchard demonstration day …
