We are thrilled to announce that Slaughter Orchard & Cidery has been awarded a USDA Specialty Crop Block Grant for us to research and teach other orchards, cider mills, and cideries how to use ground harvested apples to safely make high-quality hard cider. Our orchard and apple processing research will be conducted at our north location, Hainlen Orchard, in Converse, IN. Our fermentation research will be conducted at our Bloomington, IN cidery.

The $163,000 grant will run for two years and includes research, a model HACCP plan, an educational position paper, and in-orchard demonstration days.
